What’s The Deal With…?

Legendary Surf Spots

For that classic Malibu feel, you want a log—a traditional 9’0”+ single-fin longboard with a full nose and plenty of volume. It’s made for that wave, letting you trim, cross-step, and hang ten with ease. If you’re more into performance, a funboard or a mid-length can also be super fun, letting you crank some turns on the shoulder. Just leave the shortboard or step-up at home; this wave is all about glide and flow, not shredding.

Being salted isn’t just about being wet; it’s the deep, contented feeling after a long, solid session. Your muscles are tired in a good way, your skin is tight from the salt, and your mind is clear. You’ve had your ocean communion. It’s a tangible, physical reminder of the stoke you just earned. That salty hair and sandy feet are your badges of honor, proof you got out there and got amongst it.

It’s that grippy, foam sticker you see on the tail of most shortboards and many performance boards. Think of it as a skateboard grip tape for your back foot. Made from EVA foam (like your deck grip) with even grippier raised patterns, it gives your rear foot insane hold. This lets you push, pivot, and crank turns without slipping, especially in critical sections or when your board is wet and slippery. Essential for modern high-performance surfing.

It’s all about that perfect, freight-training right-hander. Supertubes serves up one of the most mechanical and rippable walls on the planet. When it’s on, you get a long, fast, barreling ride that can connect multiple sections for a ride of over 300 meters. The wave just has this flawless, dream-like shape that allows for high-performance carving and deep tube time. It’s the wave every goofy-footer fantasizes about and a regular-footer’s ultimate canvas. Simply put, it’s a surfing mecca.

It’s a weight and durability thing, for sure. Traditional polyurethane foam and fiberglass (PU/PE) boards have that classic flex and feel but can be fragile. Epoxy construction with expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam creates a lighter, stronger, and more buoyant board. They’re perfect for average conditions, as they paddle easier and can take a beating. Carbon fiber strips add next-level stiffness and pop for high-performance snaps. While purists still love the “glass” feel of a PU board, epoxy tech lets you surf longer with less fatigue.

Those bumps, or “arches,“ are all about feel and function, dude. The kick tail at the back gives your back foot a locked-in reference for snaps and cutbacks. The central arch supports your instep for comfort during long paddles. The varied textures—from diamond to crescent patterns—offer grip in different directions. It’s not just a sticker; it’s your connection to the board. A good pad gives you confidence to push your turns without thinking about your feet slipping out.
